Ilu Baba Ilu
$4,000.00
A joyful tribute to cultural heritage, sonic tradition, and communal celebration, Ilu Baba Ilu portrays a master drummer dressed in traditional Yoruba attire (aso oke and embroidered agbada), passionately playing the ilu (talking drum). Rendered through a signature linear, thread-like labyrinth of colors, the composition vibrates with acoustic energy, weaving lapis blues, amber yellows, and rich terracottas into an intricate tapestry. The performer’s broad smile radiates warmth and hospitality, immortalizing the vibrant heartbeat of West African musical culture. Its mesmerizing, highly detailed surface creates a visual hum that draws collectors in from across the room.

Artist Statement
My artistic practice explores the relationship between line, memory, spirituality, and cultural continuity. Through intricate, interlocking lines, I visualize the unseen connections that bind individuals to their ancestry, traditions, music, and communal experiences. My work reflects the belief that culture is not static, but a living continuum carried across generations. Each line becomes a trace of this ongoing spiritual and cultural flow—an accumulation of histories, experiences, and energies that connect the past, present, and future. Through this visual language, I seek to honor tradition while exploring its enduring relevance in contemporary life.
